General Information

Graduation ceremony for the successful candidates of the Hindu Studies Course

1. Programme outline

  • The minimum duration of the each of the programmes is one year, which is divided into two semesters.
  • The programmes commence in March each year and ends in February the following year.
  • Assignments & self-study exercises
  • Students are assessed through assignments. a percentage of which contributes towards the final mark for the course.
  • Two assignments will be done in each semester. 
  • In addition to the assignments students are expected to attempt two self-study exercises per semester which will not be submitted for marking but for which suggested solutions will be provided.
  • The sections covered in the assignments and self-study exercises will also be tested in the Exams.
  • A written examination of three hour duration (two hours in the case of Certificate in Basic Hindu Studies) will be held in each semester i.e. in July/August and in February the following year.
  • No student is permitted to enrol for more than ONE course in an Academic year.

3. Fee Structure

  • The cost of study for the year, which has been highly subsidised by the Centre, is R350.00 (R200.00 for the Certificate in Basic Hindu Studies).
  • The above cost includes all textbooks, manuals or printed notes, postage costs and examination fees.
  • The full fee is payable upon registration.

4. Registration

  • Registration opens annually on 1 November for the new Academic year commencing in March of the following year.
  • Registration is limited to 120 students (in total for all Courses) on a first come first served basis.
  • Registration is only finalised upon payment of the full registration fee and submission of all the required documents.
  • The documents include the Registration form fully completed, a certified copy of the ID document, one recent ID size photograph and relevant Academic certificates and/or reports also duly certified.
  • Registration forms may be collected from the Administrative Clerk at Centre’s Headquarters, 8 Montreal Road, Glen Anil (during office hours) or will be dispatched (faxed/e-mailed) to students wishing to register.
  • Registration forms must be completed and faxed/e-mailed or handed in at the Centre in Glen Anil.  Students faxing/e-mailing forms and copy of their ID document, must post/hand in the original form, their photo and certified copy of their ID to the Centre to finalise registration.
  • Students who want to make direct deposits to pay their fees may obtain the Centre’s Banking details by contacting the Centre.
  • All study material is despatched to students not later than 28 February.

5. Examination Centres

  • Examinations are conducted at the following Centres provided that there are at least 10 students registered at that Centre: Durban (Phoenix, Asherville and Chatsworth), Tongaat, Pietermaritzburg, Estcourt, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Glencoe, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg (Lenasia), Cape Town and Richards Bay.  Some of these exisitng Centres may be discontinued at the Centre’s discretion.  Prospective students are required to contact the Centre and make enquiries in this regard before registering.
  • Should there be more than 10 students at any other venue, consideration will be given to setting up an Examination Centre there.
  • Details of the exact location of the Examination Centres are sent to all registered students.

6. Certificate Presentaion

  • A Certificate presentation ceremony is held annually in March and April in Durban and Ladysmith respectively.
  • Successful students will be required to pay a Certificate presentation fee of R25.00 prior to the Certificate presentation ceremony.
  • Students are responsible for obtaining (at their own cost) undergraduate gowns from a Company specifically contracted to the Centre at a substantially reduced cost.

7. Contact with Course Co-ordinators

An Administration Clerk, appointed to handle queries in connection with all programmes will take telephone calls and will respond to e-mails and faxes on weekdays from 8.00am to 12.30pm once the programme commences. This excludes public holidays and any pre-stipulated recess periods which will be announced. Programme specific queries will be directed to the Course Co-ordinators concerned.
